21 Nov – We gave away 6 boards to the Girls and Boys Brigade in Surry Hills, a charity that provides a holistic space for youth and their families who may be struggling. The organisation has been running for over 130 years, and they provide a range of education and recreation programs to encourage a more positive future.
We donated the skateboards in conjunction with Totem Skateboarding, who facilitate a skateboarding workshop through an after-school program at the organisation, run by the City of Sydney. The kids learn to skateboard for 75 minutes every 2 weeks during the semester but they have no boards to practice on.
We threw our boards into the mix during the lesson and watched the kids learn new skills on them. At the end of the session, we left the boards with them. There is a lot of paper pushing involved to make things happen in a charity, but when you literally see the joy the skateboard is bringing to the child right in front of you, it is amazing and so worthwhile.
The boards were donated to the organisation, The Girls and Boys Brigade – but if any of the children show a great interest in skating, they can keep one.
